About the artist
Wendell kapay is one of Alberta's exciting contemporary visual artists. He is Cree and comes from the Day Star First Nation located in south eastern Saskatchewan. Kapay was always interested in art, but it would not be until years later that he would take a brush in hand and apply it to canvas. In the late 1990's he was involved in a workplace accident that would ultimately change his life forever. His injury was severe and it was determined that his left hand could not be saved. It was this event that would eventually lead him to the world of art. Today, Kapay uses brilliant and vibrant colour to create stunning night skies that capture his visions on canvas. Wendell's work invokes the true spirit of his ancestors with the symbols and spirituality of his people. He resides in southern alberta with his high school sweetheart of 25 years.
